... Aphesis is when an unstressed sound from the beginning of a word get lost over time. Some other examples are:
"cute" from "acute"
"'tis" from "it is" ...
Sort of similar to the process by which contractions formed (can't, etc.), but at words' starts rather than endings--and dropping a letter or two rather than combining two words. Anywho... :whistle:
