Hello. My name is Eggdog. What's yours?

Come right in. Don't be shy. Post a brief introduction.

Hello. My name is Eggdog. What's yours?

Postby Eggdog » 03:28 Sat 06 Feb 10

Hi. I'm here because Eric indiscreetly planted a link to this place in his sig line on Bruno's All Things Linux.

Most people call me Eddie. I'm a data processor for a dictionary. I live with my wife (who works for the same dictionary) and a dog in a small town in Connecticut.

I don't have any interests or hobbies, and interesting conversation intimidates me. Comments like "My knees are achy today" or "Shower curtains sure are expensive" are much more agreeable, don't you think? "I don't know what you're talking about" is guaranteed to inject an ineffable je ne sais quoi into any dialogue. That's my experience, or at least I'm sure it would be if I got out of the house more.

I'm thrilled that I am now a part of this forum, and I know you are too!

WELCOME!

Don't you worry a bit, Eddie. You have a somewhat twisted sense of humor and you have sufficient command of sarcasm that I'm sure you'll FIT RIGHT IN here. ;)

Oh... Image and watch out for Lex and that Urmas fellow. You've been warned.

No doubt the Sheriff, aka "that Urmas fellow" will be arriving, as soon as Helsinki has stopped freezing over.

Meanwhile, ¡Bienvenidos!,

Good to meet you, Eddie - welcome to Town! I'm Paul, a Professional Computer Geek who lives in Tampa. Eric and I have been friends for years and I occasionally even run into him at biker shindigs. I'm 52 with three grown kids and I work the night shift at a Computer Help Desk - taking people who are pissed off and freaking out and making them calm and happy.

But while shower curtains certainly are expensive, I've noticed that they can do double duty when I whip them into a pretty dress whenever Rhett drops by for a visit...

Hi Eddie, it's nice to see you here! I'm in disguise. I'm actually SueD from BATL but I dropped the D when I came over here. Shhh, don't tell anyone, eh.

Hi Eddie! Welcome to Town. My name is Donna, the Rughooker. I make art rugs for fun and profit. I live in Ohio, currently under about ten inches of snow, and I have a husband, three sons, a dog and two cats.

How are your knees today?

Hi Eddie, I'm Karen (aka GG) and I'm also new in town. I live in South Central Pennsylvania with my hubby Bill (aka Acadia at various forums). I have many interests and hobbies but my current favorite is digital photography. We are currently buried under approximately 20 inches of snow and the snow is still falling. We aren't quite sure how to get out of the house since everything seems to be drifting shut. I guess I won't be shopping for shower curtains today!

Anyway, welcome to Town! :)

Pretty rich coming from the prosaist who (@BATL) wrote:

Mandriva’s been great on my “work” computer, so I dug out my disc and installed it here in half an hour. Since metaphors are emanating from my overheated brain like burned coffee at a greasy spoon, I could say that Mandriva is the Girl Next Door to Archlinux’s Motorcycle Irene. And I might be right. But hey, I might never be a grownup, but I’m old enough to settle down.

Is that a compliment? Or should I start to get huffy and make a scene? :) Huff, huff, huff.

zberryz wrote:I live in Los Angeles with my husband and our two cats.

I was going to go there once, but my friends told me it was too interesting. So I changed my mind. I've never been west of Chicago. Native or transplant?

Well, at least the dogs have names. And the kids, too. That's nice!
My wife had some friends from college over last summer. They've been living in the Philippines for years, though they work in Indonesia.

I should just leave you alone :) but okay...I urge all my guests, and their footservants, too, to wear hazmat suits at my soirées. And miner's lamps. The reflection makes the edam glow; it's very invigorating and masculine.

Urmas wrote:Tervetuloa, Eddie!

I looked it up. It actually means "welcome" and isn't some low-grade suggestion. I'm kind of surprised, really.

Sue wrote:I'm actually SueD from BATL but I dropped the D when I came over here. Shhh, don't tell anyone, eh.

My lips are sealed, for proper financial considerations, of course, but the "happy penguin" was kind of a tipoff, eh. Nobody seems to have stolen your avatar yet, which surprises me because it's pretty cool.

rughooker wrote:I make art rugs for fun and profit.

My grandmother made hooked rugs. They finally wore out after years and years, and I still kind of miss them. I was in Cleveland once; if I told you when, people would start thinking of me as an old geezer and maybe treat me with wary deference.

[DEFINEFIELD~ Superior old-Yankee lecture about the character-building attributes of slop weather] I like Pennsylvania. I used to spend a fair amount of time in the City of Brotherly Love and even enjoyed it there.

Transplanted from Chicago at age 2½ so don't remember anything about it except white and black hexagon tiles on the bathroom floor. Have been here 56 years, give or take a few months, and never east of either Phoenix, Flagstaff, Las Vegas, or Lake Tahoe since (depending on which is the furthest east).

Like Sue, I am one of the Canucks roaming town.
I am an almost 61 year old widower with a hound & a 32 yr. old daughter.

Just to let you know Sue dropped the 'D' because I know what "S.D." really means.
