Wow, I can't get over how many *buntu users there are!

I love Slackware but that's not what they asked. So I answered Arch. That quickly became my second favorite distro. :)

Why not?
Shuttleworth's stated mission is to bring Linux to the "unwashed masses". :-D
I think he's succeeding.

I wasn't saying anything bad about *buntu, just an observation is all. I know it's extremely popular...it just surprises me every time I see the numbers.

My introduction to linux was with Ubuntu 6.06. After a frustrating week of trying to get my internet connection configured unsuccessfully, I gave up. I've tried other Debian based distros on this computer and none of them like my hardware. I even tried a copy of Mint (8 or something?) thinking that because everyone who's tried it loved it because it 'just worked', it might work for me. Nuh-uh.

So when someone asks me my opinion on a good beginner's distro, I always recommend Mandriva since that's where my positive experience lies.

Sheesh, you guys can't take a joke. :)

BTW, Patty shudders everytime I post over there especially if I mention Linux.
I don't think she likes me much, truth hurts I guess.

Still am. I don't spend much time there but Urmie PM's me when a Linux issue pops up
and seems to be getting nowhere.

Yeah, but he's been dead over 50 years, so I guess it didn't matter... :o
